My interview with Patrick Hogan felt like ‘Back to School.’ Spending time with Patrick was a great learning experience. His film ‘Blindsided’ delivers horror, sensory storytelling, fear, empathy, and filmmaking craft at a high level. Patrick is quintessential Hollywood — brilliant, articulate, dedicated, and creative. He holds an MFA from the USC Film School and, when not directing films, has built a major career as a sound editor with ten Emmy nominations. Patrick has worked on iconic series including ‘Six Feet Under’ and ‘Cobra Kai.’ During our conversation he joked about being nominated ten times — a moment that brought humor and perspective. ‘Blindsided’ tells the story of a blind schoolteacher struggling through a terrifying night when an alien spaceship crashes and releases a monstrous predator. The film features a low-vision cast and uses a special camera worn by the protagonist, placing the audience directly into her sensory world. Our discussion moved through film history and sound design — from ‘The Lord of the Rings’ to ‘From Here to Eternity.’ I even mentioned a moment that stayed with me for decades: the sound of a screen door closing and the echo in an empty recreation room at Pearl Harbor in 1941. Patrick, the “teacher,” helped bring that cinematic memory to life. We also touched on AI and classic sci-fi like the 1956 film ‘Forbidden Planet.’ We could have talked longer — but eventually, the school bell rang.” — Calvin ?️ 700+ Interviews & Videos ? 9,400+ Subscribers — and growing ? Notwithstanding their film, “Marilyn’s Dark Paradise.’ Yes, Marilyn Monroe. Written and directed by Remi. Jason was honored with the Best Composition for Short Film award by the Garden State Film Festival. Yes, I just watched the film. Overwhelmed with its artistry and reverence, and Marilyn. If I wrote a traditional piece here. Several pages of praise. Better to share words and ideas. A motivation for readers. I am a movie person. Part of my life. This film is so beyond mind, thought, and artistry. Ten years for them to do this. Such detail. Precision. Years to get the pill bottles just right. Remi loves ‘Back to the Future.” He was wearing a hat from the movie. Particulates of that love are evident. When Jason is composing, sitting at the piano, he hears different instruments on the piano. He wakes up from a dream, and there’s the music. It took months on a two-second shot. Refuse to get details wrong. A decade project infused with love and Marilyn. Silent film. Items in the film that Marilyn actually owned. Beyond. Sure, we talked about the Godfather, the art of composing, spirituality, Marilyn, the deep, complex, haunting woman. Way beyond an actress. And on and on. This was such a precious time with Remi and Jason, brilliant, sensitive, funny, serious, and wondrously dedicated to their art. I’ve known them all along.” Calvin 760+ Interviews & Videos ? 9,500+ Subscribers — and growing ? Please Subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/c/ConversationswithCalvinWetheSpecIEs GLOBAL Reach.
